TEAK SOURCE MATTERS
Preserving the planet’s trees, woodlands and rainforests is imperative and essential for the future survival of the human race and creatures that rely on the biodiversity for survival. Buying unsustainable wood has a profound effect on the areas where it is harvested, including human rights abuses, poaching endangered species, threatening the lifestyles and the lives of indigenous tribes as well as causing countless rare and threatened species extinction. Only a shocking 8% of the world's forest is properly protected from deforestation. Many Asian countries still export teak illegally, harvested from ancient forests, significantly impacting the environment. As a result, buying wood has become quite a complex matter.
At BouTeak, it is no longer a challenge to find furniture made from tropical hardwood. Our lumber comes from Finca Pangola in the northern zone of Costa Rica, where over 700,000 reforestation tree species were nurtured over the course of more than 15 years. BouTeak’s environmental vision successfully preserves the diverse dwindling habitat of endangered species including jaguar, puma, ocelot, tapir and the green macaw. In addition, the reforestation efforts at Finca Pangola ensures jobs and prosperity for many local families for years to come. On a small scale, sustainable efforts like these contribute to the preservation of biodiversity in the northern zone of Costa Rica. For more information go to www.cincoceibas.com.
